every path has it's puddles

After a lot of thinking, I've decided to put the themodejournal.com on a hiatus for an indeterminate time. When I started this blog, I honestly didn't really knew what I was doing. I was reading many blogs and felt inspired by them, by all the knowledge shared through the blogosphere. What a beautiful world it is! I simply though: why not start my own website to share what I like?

Fact is, I did started this with nothing planned for the long run and no goal in mind. I didn't knew exactly what I wanted to write about, what I wanted this project to become and how much time it would take on my life. For those who wonders, being serious about having a blog and maintaining it is much more than sharing pretty pictures and hit the publish button. It definetely is a wonderful journey, if you are willing to put the effort in it. Better think about it really hard if you want to start something you'll want to pursue and most importantly, evolve with.

I have been reconsidering things and what I want from my life. After questionning myself and reading more and more about blogging, I came to the conclusion that this blog does not suit what I want it to become. I started The Mode Journal thinking it would solely be a fashion oriented blog, but it soon became clear that I am interested in much more than fashion. And if I don't enjoy 100% what I do, you won't either.

I could have just switch the content and hope to transform what I already have. That's what I planned to do at first, and I worked really hard on researching and redesigning the whole blog. Thing is, even with the name The Mode Journal, I felt something wasn't quite right. And I soon realised this was holding me back.

Thanks to everyone who passed by, commented, subscribed and supported me. I had a wonderful time and my first experience blogging on my own platform has brought me a lot of knowledge. I will come back, but most certainly will close The Mode Journal and start over on another domain, organised, with a new name and a strong mission statement, ready to take over the world (!). Don't worry, I will let you all know where to find me when everything will be set up, if you want to join the ride. A fresh start, for the better.

Sincerely,

decorate with stacks of magazines + what's been going on lately

Source: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4

I love the idea of piles of magazines around the house! Instead of hiding them all, showcase them! You'll save space as well as add a beautiful touch to your decor.

As I posted earlier on Facebook, I'm sorry for the lack of updates on the blog. I'm in the process of writing my first bunch of articles for a very exciting project. I promise to talk about it further soon! Meanwhile, I'm starting to pack for my move next month and have been questioning myself about the purpose of this blog and what I want it to become in the near futur. I'm slowly redesigning the whole thing all by myself and also work towards setting a blog editorial calendar and other bits like weekly columns. Fiouuu.

You might notice some changes in my way of writing, as I promise myself I would be more open with you and fight my awkwardness. This is my blog afterall, and I count on featuring my life a bit more around here!

Another blog related thing I have been pounding on is to whether or not I should keep my blog bilingual. Of course, I like blogging in french since it is my first language. At the same time, I feel a bit obligated to as keeping french the official language in Quebec is a very controversial topic amongst the population (see Loi 101 if this interest you). In the blogging world though, I guess you could say many people speak and/or understand english and most of my audience do (my google analytics proves it!).

I wonder how useful it is that I take twice the time to translate what I write, every time. More than that, as there is two language next to each other in my posts, the blog look cluttered and I really don't like that. The point is that it makes it really harder for me to post consistently and in a genuine way. And would you like to know something I find very enlightening? Although I am aware I am far from perfect as an english writer, I always write in english first.

I'm still not 100% sure about this. Yet as you can see from this post, I might completely ditch the french and focus exclusively on delivering kick-ass content. If you have any useful advices and can help me out toward this decision, please feel free to give me your input. I'm always game for a wise advice!

Aside from all of this, I'm on a HUGE self-improvement kick. I've been paying more and more attention to what I fuel my body with and started to exercise daily. Having a lot of alone time lately, I came to think about my life and my habits, where I want to go, what I want to achieve. When you're always busy and on a roll, it can be hard to keep in mind that it's an absolute necessity to stop at times and ask yourself if you like where you're heading with your life.

beauty trend alert - wet look hair

wet look, hairstyle, spring trend, beauty

I didn't though much of this trend when I first saw it. However, the look kept coming back on the runway season after season. And the more I think about this hairstyle, the more I realise it could be a total beauty lifesaver this summer. The goal is to look well put together and ready to go on a night out even though this can seem at first like a straight-out-of-the-shower-and-didn't-had-time look.

This hairstyle can be hard to pull off: thus I advise you to take great care of your overall appearance before you try to achieve this look. A bold outfit or polished makeup will do the trick. Remember this hairdo will add an instant focus on your facial features. Time to get dolled up!

To get this look, you can use:
  • a strong hair gel
  • texturizing wax for your locks
  • overall oil for a total wet look
  • a shine spray or serum

Do you plan on trying this trend?

when korea national ballet meets levis

Je devais absolument partager avec vous ce commercial de Levis pour la gamme de jeans Stretch to Fit. Le vidéo a été filmé dans la ville de Séoul et c'est une collaboration magnifique entre le ballet et la mode de rue.

I had to share with you this Levis commercial for the Stretch to Fit jeans line. The video was filmed in the city of Seoul and it's a brilliant collaboration between ballet and streetwear.
